Enter a security code or password to use the cash register. Many cash registers require you to enter your employee ID or other security password in order to use them. Employee numbers are very useful as they ensure that each transaction corresponds to a specific person, helping to track sales and eliminate errors.
If working in a restaurant, you may need to enter your employee number, table number, and number of customers.
Newer cash registers (such as Square cash registers) may require you to log in using an email address and password.
Enter the price of the first item. Enter the exact price of the product using the number keys. Usually, you don't need to add decimals because the cash register will automatically add them for you.
Some cash registers use scanners instead of letting you manually enter the price of the item. The scanner will read the barcode and automatically input product information. If that's the case, then you don't need to categorize by department anymore.
Click the corresponding department classification key. Most cash registers require you to press a button after entering the product price and categorizing it into a certain sales category (such as clothing, food, etc.).
The department classification key can be used to set whether taxable or non taxable. You can refer to the instruction manual of the cash register to find instructions on setting the tax rate corresponding to the buttons.
View invoice: Press the arrow or paper button, and the cash register will print the invoice, so you can read the total amount recorded on the invoice.
Each type of product you add is included in the current total and usually displayed on the cash register or customer display screen.
Set necessary discounts for prices. If a product is on sale, you may need to enter the discount rate. First, enter the product price, click on the department classification button, then enter the discount percentage number (for example, for a 15% discount, enter 15), and then press the% key. This key is usually located in the row of keys to the left of the numeric keypad.
Enter the amount for the remaining products. Use the number keys to enter the exact amount for each remaining product. After entering each product, be sure to press the corresponding department classification key.
If there are multiple identical products, you can first enter the quantity of the products, then press the QTY/X-TIME key, enter the price of a single product, and then press the department classification key. For example, if there are two books priced at 6.99 yuan each, press 2, then press the QTY/X-TIME key, enter 699, and finally press the department classification key.
